Hmmm.... so if I keep reeading your Blog, I can then descend on the PoW disguised as an innocent newbie and sweep up in the Snowball-stakes, huh?

BTW - well done, Oli for the hilarious name .... although .... not SURE about Gordon Brown's capacity in that particular area.

Ha! Actually I was pretty disappointed that just when I finally got around to going to Transdnistria, having been thinking about it for years, who should choose to go there but Palin. I was pretty disappointed with his episode which included Transdnistria - less than five minutes of the programme was actually from there, and he said nothing about crossing the border. That was at least half the adventure on my journey through. I'll be uploading my photos from there soon I hope, and I expect I'll be putting a question or two about it in the quiz next time I set it!

You may well be right. I wrote this up a little bit later than ideal and my memory of proceedings was already hazy. Next time you're along I'll be sure to give full credit!

I feel my contribution to this historic victory is under-represented in your account of the evening. Your miserable failure the following week was no doubt due to my absence.

Cheers Rog. Ex-University Challenge stars (I take it that means you!) would be my first choice, as I don't want us to get landed with a hairy zealot (ermmm...). The AUA will naturally pay for your expertise. A round on University of London acronyms would probably go down well. *chuckle* I'll speak to our branch organizer and then email you :-D

Hello! Actually it was just coincidence that I was wearing such vividly coloured stripes that week - I think it was a kind of chromic quiz destiny that made me pick them out that morning. I normally save the stripes only for more high profile media appearances than 'thelondonpaper' :)

OK, here's my advice. The options available to you are essentially these:

1. Set it yourself. Cheap, but if you've never set a quiz before it may be difficult to get the level right. You could always shamelessly steal some of our old POW question sets, there are six sets available so probably at least 100 questions.
2. Get someone else to set it. May involve some cost but should guarantee a high quality quiz. I believe these people are quite good, or perhaps for a modest honorarium you could get a bunch of ex-University Challenge stars to set it...

This is a quick one - we want to hold a pub quiz/social here at the LSE for members of the AUA working at the big London unis (Kings, UCL, SOAS, etc. etc.), and we don't know where/how to get hold of a quizmaster: can you offer any advice, Rog?
