Australia 2001 - Melbourne
From Worldtraveller
Implacable rivals with Sydney, Melburnians do have to accept that Sydney wins by miles in terms of setting, and by quite a long way on the weather as well. But for cultural activities, pleasant atmosphere and Greek restaurants Melbourne is number one!
We arrived in the city on a sunny day, but it soon got cloudy and rainy.
Luckily, grey skies don't matter for night photographs. We went up the Rialto Towers, Melbourne's tallest building, one evening, and got spectacular views all across the city.
After a trip to the Arts Centre to see some live music, I wandered around the overcast city and the botanical gardens, wondering how summer in Australia could seem so similar to winter in the UK.
