Beijing to London 2002 - Fragrant Hills

The Fragrant Hills were one of my favourite parts of Beijing, being a fair way out of town and so quite rural. I went on a day when it was ridiculously hot and humid, so much so that I was considering getting the cable car to the top of the highest hill. But then I met Yan Long, an army engineer who climbs the mountain three times a week and who's best time is 28 minutes. I would have completely lost face if I'd taken the cable car, and we made it up in 45 minutes.
