The Vystavka Dostizheniy Narodnovo Khozyaystva (Exhibition of the Achievements of the National Economy), known as the VDNKh, sprawls over a large area of a northern Moscow suburb. Formerly a testament to Communist successes, it is now a sort of theme park of Soviet-era monuments and other relics, with the pavilions now filled with markets of various kinds.

To me, all of Moscow seemed to have a slightly melancholic atmosphere of past glories echoing into a present full of problems and hardship. The atmosphere was particularly concentrated here, with all the evidence of what a superpower had achieved now swamped by pure capitalism.
