Potsdamer Platz used to form a major section of no-mans-land during the days of the Wall, and the area between there and the Reichstag was a mass of barbed wire and watchposts. Today, Potsdamer Platz has lively restaurants and multiplex cinemas, and the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag are essential visits.
