I arrived at Zagreb at five in the morning, in darkness and with temperatures well below zero. I decided not to go sightseeing straight away, and instead dozed in the station for a while, waiting for sunrise. When it was light, I fortified myself with a coffee and headed out into the city. I walked up the deserted snowy streets, to the centre of town, then up to the top of a hill with a good view, stopping for the occasional burek as I explored.
