La Palma 2007 - Roque de los Muchachos

No visit to La Palma would be complete without a visit to the mountain top. The main road from Santa Cruz to the peak is fairly busy but this time we took the much less frequented western approach. This was a narrow road which climbed dramatically, reaching the top from sea level in about half the distance but with about twice the danger of the Santa Cruz road. At the top we had a quick hike out beyond the Roque de los Muchachos to a viewpoint over the caldera where I usually go to watch the sun rise after a night at the telescopes.
