The enlargement of the EU in May 2004 meant that budget airlines soon expanded eastward. Soon after Ryanair announced a new route to Riga I booked myself a flight, and headed off to the Baltic states in February 2005. It was brutally cold, approaching -20C, but the big city allure of Riga, picturesque charm of Vilnius and dramatic scenery of Sigulda kept me happy.
