Portugal 2007 - Central Porto

For the third time in my life I found myself having to sleep at Stansted airport, thanks to a ridiculously early flight. Once, before I went to Hamburg, I had a great time, meeting a fun American girl and playing cards all night, but that sadly doesn't seem to happen very often, and I had a boring and uncomfortable night on the floor, before catching my plane at 6.35am.

I arrived in Porto on a hot sunny morning and immediately liked it. I bought the wrong metro ticket by mistake, in a sleep-deprived confusion about how the zone system worked, and had to walk between two stations in a distant outer suburb of Porto. I always like finding myself in unexpected places, and I enjoyed walking through a residential suburb that I would never have ended up in intentionally. At Senhora da Hora station I got back on the metro and found my way into the centre of town.

I spent quite a lot of time during my weekend walking around the centre, stopping at cafes every now and then and watching the world go by. I learnt the magic phrase "Uma bica por favor", which got me my caffeine fix, and also managed to understand and even speak a little bit of Portuguese.

Slightly away from the centre, I found a large park where I sheltered from the hot sun for a while.
