I went to Madrid for a conference, being held in the mountains outside the city. I stopped off for a few days afterwards, suffering in the cold after coming here from the middle of summer in Chile.
The sun eventually came out and the temperature reached the teens. Parque El Retiro was pretty nice to wander around.
I first had churros on a grey rainy morning in Santiago de Compostela after a night out clubbing. I thought they were epically fantastic but all the churros I've had since then have fallen short. I went to Madrid's most famous churrería, and got some pretty decent ones - better than some horrific sticks of grease I'd had in Sevilla in 2008, but not quite up to the Santiago standards.
