Sunset at Cabo de São Vicente

Thursday February 28th 2019

In late winter, I found myself unexpectedly needing to go to Portugal for an unknown amount of time. It was a trip borne of a stressful emergency which luckily turned out to be all OK within a few days. So, I was able to enjoy the warmth of southern Portugal and the awesome coast around Cabo de São Vicente. We visited a couple of times during the week that I stayed on the Algarve. I was amazed at how busy it was, in what I imagine is ultra-low season. I'm not really sure what it is about the edges of places that attracts people. But I like it too, and I enjoyed being at the south-westernmost point of mainland Europe.

North of the cape

Crowds gathered on the very point of the cape each night. The views would have been much the same from any point along the cliffs, but what would be the point in standing on only the second or third south-westernmost point in Europe?
